The Commedia Rapunzel

The Commedia Rapunzel by Lane Riosley

Lunch and Performances December 7th, 14th, and 21st 2019

Columbine, Rosetta, Punchin, and Arlequin all let down their hair to tackle the tangled tale of Rapunzel.  When Gottel the Witch discovers the thief in her garden, she tricks him into exchanging his first born daughter for the salad he took.  Full of lots of lazzi and witty fun, this commedia tale is a pure delight!

Commedia dell’arte, Italian for “comedy of the professional artists,” was a popular form of improvisational theatre that began in Italy in the 15th century and continued in its appeal for centuries.   It is the fore-father of slapstick comedy as performed by the Marx Brothers and just about any animated features by productions companies such as Disney, Pixar, and Dreamworks.
