Hamlet is one of the great tragedies by William Shakespeare. The themes of the plot cover indecision, revenge and retribution, deception, ambition, loyalty and fate. Prince Hamlet mourns both his father’s death and his mother’s remarriage to his father’s brother. The ghost of Hamlet’s father appears to him and tells him that his brother poisoned him. Hamlet swears revenge. He kills the eavesdropping Polonius, the court chamberlain. Polonius’s son Laertes returns to avenge his father’s death. Polonius’s daughter Ophelia loves the Prince but his behavior drives her to madness. Ophelia dies by drowning. A duel takes place and ends with the death of Gertrude, Laertes, Claudius, and Hamlet. (As part of our educational theatre purpose, the roles of the Ghost, Claudius, Gertrude and Polonius will be portrayed by adults as mentors for younger actors cast in the play.)
This production is performed outdoors at Haines Park Amphitheatre (711 3rd Ave SE) Altoona, IA. In the event of inclement weather, performances will be moved to CAP Theatre (201 1st Ave S) Altoona, IA.
